The Central Board Of Film Certification (CBFC) had ordered the Indian market exhibitions to cut a scene from Heretic which mentions Lord Krishna and more religious books. The film led by Hugh Grant is a psychological thriller released in India theatres December 13.
The film follows Hugh Grant as the Heretic questions the religious system while interacting with two young missionaries sisters trapped in his house. One of the scenes shows the actor questioning the origin of Jesus Christ and his story allegedly told over 1000s of years before his birth and death. While comparing his story for being reborn and worshiped is also compared to that of Krishna in a short scene which has been removed from the film.
According to reports, the CBFC granted the film an ‘A’ certificate restricting the film’s audience only to adults. To make sure that no religious sentiments are hurt, the CBFC asked the makers to delete audio and visual content involving Lord Krishna.

Besides Hugh Grant, the film also stars Sophie Thatcher, Chloe East, Topher Grace, and others in key roles. The reviews of the film have been positive, Mashable India’s Sanyukta Thakare said, “Heretic is thought provoking and comes with logic on both sides without plot armour keeping one in more in control. Despite the great plot and the screenplay, it’s the performance that deserves most of the credit. All three have a massive presence in the small rooms which makes up for the biggest difference.”
The film is out in theatres this weekend.
